Our Emergency Department (ED) operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week. A team of emergency physicians, general practitioners, anesthetists, registered nurses and registered practical nurses staffs it.
The major trauma centre for the Georgian Triangle Area, the ED at CG&MH has modern, well-equipped facilities for triage, resuscitation, trauma, surgical and medical care.
How it works
Patients are not seen on a "first come, first served" basis. Instead patients are assessed by a nurse as quickly as possible and seen by a physician according to the severity and urgency of their injury or illness. Patients arriving by ambulance come in through a different entrance, so it may seem as though we aren't busy when in fact we are. Please be patient and do let us know if your condition worsens.
Patient Transfers
As a community hospital, the G&M Hospital's role is to provide primary medical care. Critically ill patients who are beyond the scope of primary medical care are stabilized in the ED and then transferred to other healthcare facilities depending on their care needs.
What to Bring
When coming to the G&M Hospital for treatment for yourself, family or friends, please bring the following patient information:
- Valid Ontario Health Card or insurance documentation
- Current home address and next of kin
- WSIB (Workplace Safety & Insurance Board) claim number, Social Insurance Number and accident date if your visit is related to a workplace injury or illness
- All medications or a list of the medications with the doses and times you take them.
TIP - put all of your medications (including natural or homeopathy) in a ziplock plastic bag and bring the bag to the hospital with you. Your healthcare team will make careful note of what medications you are currently taking. While in the Hospital, your team will supply you with any medications you may need to take.
Infection Control
You can help prevent the spread of infection by alerting the Emergency Department if you have diarrhea and by requesting a mask if you are coughing or sneezing.
Please use the hand sanitizers frequently and always when entering or leaving the Hospital and before and after using the toilet.
